The Tall Texan Triathlon is a USAT sanctioned event produced by a USAT certified race director.  All USAT rules will be enforced. The Tall Texan Triathlon is a long course triathlon that takes place in Boerne Texas.  Not for the faint of heart!  You will be challenged not only by the distance, but by the hills you will experience along the way.  Stand tall as you take on this challenge!  1.2 mile lake swim, 56 mi bike along rolling hills, 13.1mile run (two loops).  Time limits will be enforced.  The swim cutoff will be 1 hour 10 minutes from the start of the last wave.  Athletes not making the cutoff will be DQ'd from the event and not allowed to continue.  The bike course time limit is 5 hours after the start of the last swim wave.  Athletes not finishing the bike portion will be DQ'd from the event and not allowed to continue.  The run course will officially close 8 hours after the start of the last swim wave.  Athletes remaining on the course will be allowed to unofficially finish but will officially be DQ'd from the results provided to USAT.

The Swim:  Swim distance is 1.2 miles.  You will swim in refreshing Boerne City Lake.  The course will be a one loop route and will be well marked by buoys. Kayaks and Lifeguards will be on the course to assist you if needed.  You will be allowed to wear wetsuits for the swim provided the temperature is 78 degrees or below. The swim start will be on the boat ramp next to the transition area.

The Bike:  After completing the swim you will transition to the bike for a 56 mile ride along rolling hills.  You will be required to have your helmet on before taking your bike off the rack and you must keep your helmet on and fastened until you have re-racked for the run.  Please begin the bike portion with a full hydration system.  There will be four aid stations on the bike course with water, electrolyte drink, and energy gels or bars.  Mount and dismount your bike at the designated line outside transition. There will be safety marshals on course as well as SAG.  You are responsible for the mechanics of your bike.  Be prepared to fix your own flats should one occur on course. Police will be on hand to help with traffic control, but remember you are ultimately responsible for your own safety.  Follow all traffic laws and remember this is an open course.

The Run:  After you complete the bike portion you will  transition to the 13.1 mile run.  The run course is two loops.  There will be aid stations 1 to 1.5 miles apart throughout the course.  There will be water, electrolyte, and energy gels or bars available at each stop.  You will be required to have your race number visible from the front at all times while on the run course.

Age group awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group.  Overall awards will be given to the top male and top female finisher.  All finishers will receive a custom event medal to commemorate their victory.  Awards will be given after the top three have crossed the finish line in each age group.  Awards will be kept for one week post event at Britton's Bicycle Shop in San Antonio.  No awards will be mailed.

Packet pick up will take place at Britton's Bicycle Shop located at 16636 US Hwy 281 North. San Antonio TX 78232 on Friday March 26th from 4-7 and Saturday from noon-7.  You must pick up your own packet; have your ID and USAT card or purchase a one day license for $10.  No exceptions.  If you lost your card you can print one from www.usathiathlon.org NO RACE DAY PACKET PICK UP.

There are no refunds or rollovers for any reason.  You may transfer your registration if unable to attend, but you must notify the race director in writing no less than 7 days before the event.  No transfers will be accepted after that time. Transfers are for the same race only.

In the event of foul weather, the start time of this event may be delayed by up to 1 hour. Should weather conditions be unsafe for the swim, this event will be changed to a duathlon. If the weather makes it too dangerous for cycling, the event will become a run only. No refunds for weather related cancellation of event.

You will be issued a "Championchip" and a velco strap. Your net time will be recorded with the computer chip that is wrapped around your ankle with a velco strap. Chip issue is the morning of the race at the entrance to the transition area. You must wear the chip to be timed and scored. The chips will be retrieved in the chutes just past the finish line after the race. If you do not start the race or you drop out, we ask you to return the chip to the tent located at the finish line. Athletes will be charged $35 for chips not returned at the end of the race.
