In the
fall of 2006, Wilier Triestina and Team Lampre
Fondital acquired the services of aerodynamics guru
John Cobb to work with Damiano Cunego on his time
trial position. John Cobb is famous for having
developed the positions of Lance Armstrong and Greg
LeMond. They chose Mr. Cobb's preferred test
lab, the Texas A&M Low Speed Wind Tunnel, used by
Harley Davidson among others. The objective for the
session was to put Damiano Cunego through a set of
meticulous air flow tests to find the best possible
solutions for equipment, position, and biomechanics
to improve his chances in stage race time trials.
However, the session in the tunnel proved to be an
opportunity to obtain precious information for the
development of Wilier Triestina frames, particularly
the
Cento Crono.
Behold the result: a
time trial frame designed and tested by John Cobb in
the wind tunnel to be the fastest on the market.
